Storage is a removal company set up 5 years ago by it’s founder Ade Ajadi. The company had grown rapidly within in 3 years but the last two years were stagnant with little or no growth. A plan of action for further growth was drastically needed.
“After five years we realised that we were practically standing still. We were at a crossroads and we needed to take the business to another level. I conveyed these feelings to our accountants Spearmans. They signed us up on their business development programme called Business Grower. We were sceptical at first because we didn’t think accountants could tell us anything about our business we didn’t already know. However we were aware that something needed to be done and so we decided to give it a try”, Ade recalls.
“The first stage of the Business Grower programme was the factfind which involved a meeting between us and a consultant from Spearmans. During this session they asked us about our reasons for starting in business initially, our mission statement, our short-term and medium to long-term objectives. At this stage I was becoming very excited about the programme. It really made me think about the business as a whole including what we were in business for, our personal as well as our business aspirations. We were then presented with a report which outlined a strategy for developing our business and an action plan. The session was at no cost to us and we had the option of opting out of the programme if we wanted to. Needless to say we did not opt out of the programme because we already felt that we were deriving some benef from it”.
“Once we agreed to proceed with the programme then the serious work commenced. Spearmans advised us to redesign our company image and our website. They gave us a whole new image and all our company stationery, vehicles, staff uniforms and website were redesigned with the new corporate image. At this stage I felt that the accountants had truly earned their keep and we began to see them in a different light. In fact we were now happy to see them more often”.
“The next stage was implementation of the recommendations outlined in the initial report and a timetable for the project. We were assigned a consultant who worked closely with myself and some of our managers to ensure that we did not deviate from the plan. It was truly an exciting period for all concerned in our company. In all my years in business I have never witnessed such a sense of excitement, achievement and team spirit”.
